R. Thomas Brown – A Late Night Conversation

In which I have a late night conversation with Ron Thomas Brown. You seriously need to read Hill Country. Here’s a little info about Ron’s first book.

Gabriel Hill stumbles home to find a mutilated corpse on his porch. A man who had beat him earlier. After puking, he finds a makeshift animal sacrifice behind his house. The next day, his life got complicated.

His home is broken into. He’s beaten by a stranger. Seduced by another. Threatened unless he can find the valuables his dead brother supposedly sent to him.

Ignoring advice to run, Gabe searches for answers. He finds a brother unlike the drug addicted young man he forgot. He finds new threats, new enemies, more dead bodies, a courage he didn’t think existed, a love that he didn’t expect and a truth that he feared.

“R. Thomas Brown writes like grain alcohol burning, blue and hotter than shit. In HILL COUNTRYthe story barrels down country highways towards characters hard-bit as nails and rough-and-tumble as they come. HILL COUNTRY is one of the best and freshest new entries into crime fiction today.” – John Hornor Jacobs, author THIS DARK EARTH and SOUTHERN GODS

“R. Thomas Brown’s HILL COUNTRY is a demonic Tilt-A-Whirl of murder, mayhem, and betrayal that straddles the line between crime and horror. Lean, fast-paced, and unflinching, HILL COUNTRY will crawl under your skin and stick with you long after you’ve turned the final page.” – Chris F. Holm

“In Hill Country, R. Thomas Brown has written an edgy tale full of passion and human fallibility. The story bounds along at a breakneck pace, unrelenting and painfully real. Its cast of characters run the gamut, from broken to brutal, from raw as an open wound to cold and dark as a winter midnight. When you start this tale, plan on not putting it down till you’re done, and while you’re reading, don’t forget to breathe.” – Bill Cameron, author of County Line

Most stuff I do, it’s spur of the moment. All the way. So, I wanted to test out an online video interview system and Ron Brown was kind enough to oblige me. Ron is the author of HILL COUNTRY, a fantastic crime novel I’ve had the privilege of reading. You can buy Hill Country at ye olde Amazon. Link here.

Mentioned: work, advertising, dayjob, wife, Laura Benedict, publishing, cycling, bike riding, slumps, and other stuff.

  • John,

Really enjoyed that. I came over here after seeing it on Ron’s blog. I found the informality and casual nature to be even better than some others that are a little more directed that I’ve watched. The conversation regarding agents and publishing was of particular interest to me as well as the ups and downs of just producing words sometimes.

I think the first work of yours I read was The Death Fantastique over at BTAP and of course Southern Gods was a dandy. Just wanted to drop a line and say that I enjoyed the interview and hope you’re success rolls on, which I’m sure it will. Thanks again, Jim

  • Thanks for stopping by, Jim! I hope you’re right.

    Don’t be a stranger!

    • John,

Uh oh, now you’ve done it. Boy are you going to regret being nice. Seriously, I’m inviting you to follow my first book blog. Listen, take a minute to compose yourself because I know what a huge thing this is for you….I need all the big dogs that I can get to follow the blog, because I’m not exactly a household name.
It is my first book and I co-wrote it with a great friend of mine. He actually knows how to write, I’m just along for the ride. Anyway, it would be a pleasure to have you drop by and say hey at http://hardboiledpartners.blogspot.com/
